The Ultimate Road Trip Song That Will Save Your Life

If there's one thing I miss in this world, it's driving. From 17 all the way until a few years ago, I've always had a car at my disposal. There's something magical about driving in Canada esp. the winter and nobody has summed it up better than Toronto's own Hayden Dresser. This ultimate road trip song can be found on Skyscraper National Park (aka: the only Hayden album you should own with "Street Car" being one of the most shockingly beautiful ways to open an album ever) and was the reason I had the idea of doing a NYC road trip last year. Mr. Dresser has become a little bit of a joke/legend in Toronto and you can always guarantee a game of Where's Waldo with him because he's at every cool show, standing awkwardly outside the venue with a hot woman. At last year's National show at The Phoenix, he was not only there, but was called upon to help sing an encore... I suppose you can guess which song they played? "Dynamite Walls" is a call to arms for any Canadian band trying to drive to the next city and is perfectly depicted in the video. The distance between cities/provinces is a major reason why Canadian bands fail to stay together because in the UK you could drive 4 hours and be in another country, whereas here, you'd need about 15-20 hours, 4 tanks of gas, lots of petty band in-fighting just to get from Toronto to Winnipeg. My friends have sorta chickened out on another road trip this year, so I think I might buy a bag of pretzels, Tim Horton's vouchers, a few copies of Skyscraper National Park and rent-a-car and drive to the town where I'll name my next band. Details to follow...
